Clean First, then Disinfect
The difference between cleaning and disinfecting
There is a significant difference between cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting.
Regular cleaning agents such as liquids, powders, sprays, or granules are made to remove dirt, dust, debris and odors from surfaces.
However, cleaning, by itself, is relatively ineffective at preventing the spread of germs.
Although cleaning is an important first step in improving the health of any environment, it is insufficient to prevent the spread of disease.
Remember:
- Cleaners are used to improve appearances.
- They are not effective at killing bacteria or viruses.
But, to be effective, disinfectants and sanitizers require a clean surface. So clean the surface first, then disinfect.
